Summer School and Workshop on Decomposition Numbers and Character Formulae for Lie Algebras, Algebraic Groups and Quantum Groups

May 9 - May 15, 1999

The aim of the workshop is to present recent developments on character formulae and decomposition numbers, in particular on Soergel's recent results and conjectures for characters of tilting modules for Kac-Moody algebras and quantum groups and on the Lascoux-Leclerc-Thibon conjecture on decomposition numbers for Hecke algebras at roots of unity. The first part of the workshop is a summer school, which is intended to prepare the participants for the second part. Active participation is required, but the summer school is open for non-experts who wish to learn the subject. The second part of the workshop will consist of series of lectures given by: Here is the schedule (dvi / ps) (updated April 27). You may download the invitation (dvi / ps), the program (dvi / ps) and the list of participants (dvi / ps) (updated April 23) for more details.

Since the number of participants is limited, and we are fully booked, we had to stop registration. We are sorry for any inconvenience.

Participants can buy books on related topics at reduced prices. Here is more information.

A good introduction into a large part of the material to be covered during the summer school are the recent lecture notes by Andrew Mathas: Hecke algebras and Schur algebras of the symmetric groups. (This is preprint E98-005 of the SFB 343 at Bielefeld. Note that this version is very preliminary. The much more detailed final version will be published by AMS and will be offered to participants at a reduced price.) Another part of the material is covered by course notes on tilting modules by Michael Klucznik and Steffen König. Here is the present version (March 5) (dvi, or ps). We are still working on these notes; suggestions for improvements are very welcome.

The workshop will be held in the Heinrich Fabri Institut in Blaubeuren:

How to find the town Blaubeuren? Map or schematic map
How to find the institute? On the first town map an arrow is pointing to it. On the second town map the railway station is encircled.
And here is the town from the air.

We obtained funding from the Volkswagen foundation. We will be able to cover local costs of participants and also the major part of travelling costs. Participants should expect to have to contribute up to 100 DM by themselves.

Here are some interesting links: For the official homepage of the town Blaubeuren you will need netscape4 or a similar browser. From this link you may get lots of nice pictures of the town and the landscape. Maps are also available there. Some of the pictures are shown here: Blautopf, monastery, landscape, and rocks.

Here you will find general information on the area: Schwäbische Alb.

Here is another picture of the famous monastery Blaubeuren. And here are pictures of the lake Blautopf, which is particularly interesting not only because of the fairy tale taking place there, but also because it is the entrance to a system of caves (below water level). This system of caves is being investigated by Jochen Hasenmayer who created a theory which presently is very much argued about among geologists. (You can find part of the debate in the net - search for 'Hasenmayer', one example is here.)
