There was a time in my life when I tortured my friends with "Snaps". But you're making it FAR too easy. Firt off, DON'T snap out the actual answer. Snap out some clue. This keeps the folks who are trying to break the code from thinking back and figuring it out. Sometimes your confederate won't get the answer from the clue; that's okay, just think of another clue and keep going. Only in desperation should you resort to snapping out the actual answer. Secondly, select the sentences you say in between the snaps with care. The best stuff to say in between the snaps should be tantalizingly close to actually clueing in your confederate. Now, we know that most of the text is meaningless. But to the folks trying to figure out what you're up to, you can keep them off the correct trail for a long time. When you're in practise, you can come up with these as fast as you need to. I'm way out of practise, but, oh, let's say we're trying to get across "Dustin Hoffman": Religious Jews don't play Snaps on the Sabbath. Snap Snap-Snap-Snap No one has ever won an Oscar for playing Snaps. My cousin thinks playing Snaps is a waste of time. Snap New Yorkers play Snaps on the subway. Then, assuming this was enough clue for your confederate to say "Dustin Hoffman", the poor folks trying to figure things out are spending their time asking themselves "Jews, an Oscar, his cousin, New Yorkers ?? How could he possibly have gotten 'Dustin Hoffman' from that ??" steve ---------------------------------------------------------------------- Article: 6593 of rec.puzzles From: flee@cse.psu.edu (Felix Lee) Subject: Re: The Snapping Game Steve Biederman: > But you're making it FAR too easy. My brother told me of a variant of the snapping game called "Doodle", where you draw pictures. The pictures are meaningless camouflage. The information is conveyed entirely in the "Do you have it yet?" chatter and impatient snaps, just like in the snapping game. It's a game of misdirection, and I think this could be much harder to figure out than straight snaps. -- ---------------------------------------------------------------------- Article: 6677 of rec.puzzles From: dfw@at1147.vitro.com (Daniel F. What are the "codes" to the "snapping game" and the "trip game" ? -- I'm stumpped on this one, and feel pretty silly! :8-) -- Daniel dfw@at1147.vitro.com ObFunPuzzle: The Stroop Effect. Write out the names of colors (red, blue, green, etc...) with markers of a different color (e.g. write the word "red" with a blue marker, "green" with a brown marker, etc., randomly). Make this list about 15 or 20 words. Make another list of words (same number of words), but use objects instead of color names, again writing them in different color inks. The puzzle: Time yourself to read off the *INK* colors for each list (not the word written). It will take longer to recite the ink colors on the "color" list than on the other list ... Many minutes of my time were wasted trying to figure out this Snaps game. Maybe too many, considering the vowels hint. The Dustin Hoffman post was the catalyst that led to my solving the puzzle. ---------------------------------------------------------------------- Article: 6619 of rec.puzzles From: hughes@studsys.mscs.mu.edu (brett hughes ) Subject: Re: The Snapping Game Couldn't believe that others know about this game, too! Tremendous fun at a party. Taught it to my friends last weekend. (pause) They loved it!! ----------------------------------------------------------------------
