Torontonians ``twist'' and shout their way to a new world record

     - Molson Canadian Has Gamers ``Twisting'' at the Docks in Bid for
                             Guinness Glory -

    TORONTO, Aug. 1 /CNW/ - The `shagadelic' summer of 1999 just got a bit
more groovy with a summer-long Molson Canadian Twister promotion that's on the
verge of propelling Molson Canada into the Guinness Book of World Records.
Today's official bid for the Guinness Book of World Records had
participants at The Docks Entertainment Complex competing in a challenging
game of Team Twister on a massive game board - the world's largest replica of
a Twister mat. An official entry submitted to Guinness is based on the
unprecedented size of the Canadian-made Twister mat measuring a staggering 24
x 40 ft. - a little too large for the average Canadian rec room.
Unlike the classic Hasbro Twister of yesteryear, the record bid featured
four teams of four people tied together using 10-foot-long bungee cords
attached to belts around the waists of each team member. The courageous folks
who signed-on to play the ground-breaking game experienced a very twisted,
very Canadian, take on an old favorite.
``Most people associate Twister with `classic Americana fun'. Molson is
putting a uniquely ``Canadian'' twist on this classic game by showing the
world that nobody knows how to throw a bigger or better Twister party than
Canadians,'' Michelle Robichaud, Molson Canada. ``The sheer size of the game
board was only matched in scale by the enthusiasm of those in attendance.''
Today's record-breaking game began with players from the same team
standing on a single dot until each team member had spun. In addition to being
tied to their teammates with sprawling bungee cords, each member was
designated as a specific body part. With each spin, members had to move that
body part to the corresponding coloured dot on the board. Molson showed its
appreciation to players by providing instant win prizes to those who landed on
the ``Here's Where We Get Canadian'' dot.
The official status of the Molson record bid will be confirmed by the
Guinness Book of World Records later this year. Until then, those interested
in trying out the massive board can always drop by The Docks on Saturday for
the duration of the summer.
